Understanding the Market

Dividends are payments made by a company to its shareholders, usually from profits. They are distributed on a regular schedule and represent a return on investment for shareholders.

Market capitalisation is the total value of a company’s outstanding shares, calculated by multiplying the share price by the number of shares in issue. It reflects the company’s overall market value.

Stocks represent ownership in a company and may offer higher returns with greater risk. Bonds are a form of loan to a company or government, providing fixed interest payments with lower risk exposure.
